Day 9 - Luzern (kind of)

We had big plans for today to see the sights of Luzern that we didn't get to yesterday, including most of old town. But first, we decided to spend the morning at the Museum of Transportation, which was recommended by Robyn! Nick could see the museum from our breakfast table at the hotel, and it turned out to be a beautiful walk from our hotel (though an even longer walk than usual because the funicular was closed for maintenance this morning!).

The museum coverage pretty much all transportation: trains, planes, cars, bikes, boats, farm equipment, motorcycles, SPACE. We spent a fair amount of time going through the museum (I wanted to read everything and Nick did not. We ended up going at my pace 😇). Here are some photos.

Even though we did a lot at the museum and spent a considerable amount of time there (11 am to 3 pm), there were still a few exhibits that we did not see since they required extra tickets (planetarium, Swiss Chocolate Experience). There were also a lot of closed portions of some parts of the museum, and unfortunately the train section was one of them :/ it is undergoing renovations, and should be good to go in 2025 (perfect timing for someone else). But even with some partial closures there was still a lot to see and we generally had a good time. More pics!

After the museum, we had plans to stop in at the hotel room to for a quick minute to grab water and snack, then on to the Christmas markets for more shopping and food. Well, unfortunately, on the walk back Nick was sticken with illness (food poisoning potentially). It first came on as queasiness, then quickly turned into being sick and being down for the count. Bubbly water, tea, nibbling on light snacks of crackers and apples*, and Pepto were all methods employed by Nick to try and stabilize himself quickly to get out to the town, but nothing seemed to help. He finally conceeded that he wouldn't be going out at all and took a nap.

*quick aside on the apples: for some reason, our hotel offers carts of apples in the hallways for guests to snack on. Really not sure what the story is behind it, but I ate 2 today because we skipped lunch.

Once the apples were all gone and Nick was awake but still feeling bad, I ventured out to find dinner for both of us. With Nick being sick, soup was the only thing that sounded edible to him, so I found a still open ramen shop in the train station. I made the walk over solo, picked up the food (and alka-seltzer from a still open pharmacy) and made my walk back to the hotel.

The soup helped Nick physically, but emotionally he was bummed for a wasted afternoon. We have big plans for tomorrow. I won't spoil it now, but here is a hint:

Wish us luck!!
