2024 Year in Review

Hello! Welcome back to "this was supposed to be short but it got really long" the 2024 update!

Life Events

Well we got married

House stuff took up much of the first half of our year, which is covered below. Once summer hit, we went into full wedding mode. It was a wonderful evening, full of friends and fantastic vibes.

You can find an album of our wedding here!

Here's another few pics for fun:

Home Updates

This was the year of renting large equipment from Home Depot. Read on if you dare.

Kitchen status

No, we have not finished the cabinet doors. If you recall, these are the LAST THING that need to be finished in our big kitchen remodel (if you recall recall, the kitchen had mold damage and smelled awful). Here's where we were in January:

They were all cut into proper door sizes!

and we are pleased to report they're about in the same state! Well, sorta. We have been adding details to the doors and that is taking a long time, mostly because we cheaped out on jigs. Neither of us have desires to get into real wood working.

Finished the floating shelves and magnetic knife block (it has 200+ magnets in it!)
We got grain mites less than 3 weeks before the wedding too. Put your grains in sealed containers!!!

Being energy smart

To finish the kitchen remodel, we had to remove the old A/C system, which basically meant we had to redo the attic insulation. There was old ducting, asbestos, and something like 15 industrial sized cans of spray foam to seal all of the holes in the attic. We got 3 pallets of insulation and rented an insulation blower. Over two wet days and with a lot of bruises, cursing, and dust, went from R-8 to R-60. Nick spent 3 days in the attic, isolated and alone, but it was worth it. Now the house stays cool or warm and we cut the power bill by hundreds of dollars!!

Vibes central station

Besides the grapes and fruit trees, the backyard was a desolate land of dead lawn and bugs. We wanted to expand the patio to make it actually functional but also inviting. This became more of a pressing desire once we were forced to remove a tree which had been consumed from the inside by carpenter ants. One problem: excavating the dirt to make the patio would cost thousands to send to the dump! The solution: make a giant 12' knee-high planter and put the dirt in there!

Once the sod and dirt had been moved, we installed a new paver patio (which was a lot of work and piles of various materials being dumped onto our driveway). Then we put in lights and the vibes are immaculate.

Anyways, here's some pics:

Other Stuff We Did

We saw the Big Boy locomotive, went to Cabo to celebrate our engagement, went to some concerts for some cool bands, went camping a few times, saw the last A's game...
