2020 Year in Review

Yeah, that’s right: We’re going to be one of those couples who make one of these dumb update things. But hey, at least we’re saving paper and giving you and yours the option to not even look at it by forcing you to access this website. Anyways…

Despite 2020 being an odd year, we still had an eventful 365 days.
We took our one and only vacation in January to Disney World (RIP) to cash in on the many work trips Nick had been taking in 2019. While we did visit the new Star Wars area, the Hoop-de-doo Revue was 100% the best part of the trip. Hmu if you want to hear about how those 2 hours are so worth it. Had we known what was in store for the rest of the year, we probably would’ve done a lot more between January and March. We went to our last (and the last for a while) Chinese New Years parade in SF, where Lauren performed for the 5th and last time. And that’s pretty much it pre-COVID… we had a trip to NYC, a cruise to Alaska, then a trip to a few national parks planned to celebrate Lauren’s graduation. Yeah…

Once the lockdown began, Nick traveled to SLO to live with Lauren for a while and take advantage of the less populated and tastier offerings SLO had over the Bay Area. Along with her generous roommates, we survived the first 3 months of COVID with Netflix, volleyball, lots of hiking, and even more cheap takeout. Lauren also pioneered the now-normal remote teaching of labs, as she spent Spring quarter instructing a Soils Lab as a Master’s student.

Around mid-spring, we starting looking for a place to live once Lauren graduated in June. Possibly thanks to the shutdown, we found the perfect place rather quickly in Dublin, CA. The hardest part of moving in was getting Ikea to deliver stuff at all. We have yet to explore more of the area (specifically hiking) due to both COVID and the Blade Runner Smoke season.

Lauren now works as a Staff Engineer at Earth Systems in Fremont and is still working on her Thesis. Nick has started working towards his Masters degree at UC Davis.

Happy Holidays and let’s hope to see real people again in 2021!

Lots of COVID projects… this website included. Here’s some pictures of food and stuff we made:

...and as always...

(For reference, this is from a very rushed video from Cal Poly several years ago… Lauren swears there’s multiple takes that are much better but they chose this one for the final video. It’s just here to torment her now.)
